The private security forces in the service of VdL Nedcar have proven once again that emancipation is not part of their vocabulary. A group of men walked up to a low-hanging occupant tonight, poked her with sticks, shone light in her face, and shouted at her. They furthermore tried to dismember the platform that the woman was occupying. This is the second day in a row that these overly ambitious sexists prevented the activist from getting some rest. It is important to keep in mind here that being well-rested is absolutely relevant to guarantee the safety of someone at height.
The woman bothered in her sleep was only left alone after ground support arrived. This was organized after another climber had heard her calling for help. The security workers used a ridiculous excuse for their disrespectful behaviour, falsely claiming that the woman was in need of assistance.
It is not the first time that the security company’s workers crossed a line of minimum respect and decency towards women. Earlier, they already used flashlights to shine light on a woman who was taking a toilet break. Thereafter, they grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and forcefully arrested her. We deem it unacceptable to invade someone’s privacy in these most vulnerable moments.
These men’s actions have led to the absurd situation where the police is now busy keeping the private security contractors away from the forest protector.
It is time for VdL to reconsider their cooperation with this company. There are no excuses for this transgressive, sexist behaviour.
