VDL is negotiating its potential new production line with the American start up Rivian, a producer of electric cars. If we are to believe Rivian’s website, they are a company that contributes to the fight against climate change and wants to ‘preserve nature’ with their electric cars.
However, if Rivian is really concerned about the environment, they will surely not want to be responsible for the destruction of an old forest?
Our demand to Rivian is clear: ensure in all negotiations with VDL Nedcar that the preservation of the entire Sterrebos is guaranteed – and make this publicly known!
And you can help! Make a selfie of yourself with your message to Rivian and share it on social media! Or send them a direct message on their socials, using one of the images below. Or even better, give them a call! Scroll down for text examples, addresses and telephone number.
Here is an example message:
Hey @rivian, if you truly care about the planet then stop negotiations with @VDL_Groep ! Do not destroy our Dutch Nature! The Climate Movement is watching you! #redhetsterrebos #stoprivian

Hey @rivianofficial, you say you want to preserve the natural world for generations to come. Why are you then cutting down the #Sterrebos forest? Stop negotiations with @vdlgroep! #redhetsterrebos #stoprivian

Subject: Stop negotiations with VDL Nedcar
In order to provide Rivian with a new assembly line, VDL Nedcar wants to cut down an ancient forest: The Sterrebos. We do not have many forests left in the Netherlands, especially not such ancient ones.
You claim on your website that you want to contribute in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. If you really think this is so important, you should not agree to the destruction of a forest for a new production line.
Therefore I ask you:
Stop the negotiations with VDL Nedcar if it means that the Sterrebos has to be destroyed!
Calling is great, because then you might even get a real person on the line! Who knows, maybe you can have a sincere conversation with them? Don’t forget, there have been epic phone campaigns where the front desk is standing at the coffee machine complaining because so many people are calling.
